Turner prize winning artist Grayson Perry long cherished an ambition to show his own art - his own civilisation as he calls it - alongside the great civilisations of the world. So he sent a proposal to the director of the British Museum outlining the concept for an exhibition of his objects presented alongside objects he would select from the the museum collection. He called his idea The Tomb of the Unknown Craftsman and to his surprise the Museum agreed to run with it.
