Sao Paulo Bienal to host World Biennial Forum No. 2

During the 31st Bienal de Sao Paulo (6 September - 7 December 2014) the Biennial Foundation will stage the World Biennial Forum No 2. Initiated to provide a discursive platform for the international biennale community, the forum's role is to investigate and research the various modes of operation and production in different regions, and offer insights into the current issues and needs surrounding art biennials worldwide. Read more...

The world's first online biennale

The world's first online biennale, an exclusively internet-sited art exhibition, will be launched in April under the directorship of Jan Hoet. He is working with a team of international curators including: Daniel Birnbaum, director of Moderna Museet, Stockholm; Fulya Erdmci, curator Istanbul Biennale; Yuko Hasegawa, chief curator of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo and curator of the Sharjah Biennial; Adriano Pedrosa, independent curator, Sao Paulo; and Nancy Spector, Guggenheim Museum NY. frieze's postcard from the World Biennale Forum No.1

In October the World Biennale Forum No.1, titled Shifting Gravity and co directed by Hou Hanru and Ute Meta Bauer, took place in Gwangju. Initiated to provide a discursive platform for the international biennale community and a space for networking and exchanging common practices, the three-day conference explored biennale structures, developments and futures. Alfons Hug to curate the debut edition of the Biennale de Montevideo

Uruguay is the latest country to join the biennale club. Titled Big Sur, the debut edition of the Biennale de Montevideo will be curated by Alfons Hug in collaboration with two co-curators: the Chilean born Paz Guevara, who lives in Berlin; and the Uruguayan curator and artist Patricia Bentancur. Hug is the director of the Goethe Institut in Rio de Janiro and has curated numerous biennales including Sao Paulo and the Instituto Italo-Latino Americano pavilion in the 54th Venice Biennale.

Big Sur opens on 15 October, in the middle of the Sao Paulo Bienal,which scheduled for 8 September - 9 December 2012.
