Kaldor's next project has its origins in the practice of measuring the heights of children against a door frame

The next Kaldor Public Art Project is Measuring the Universe by Slovakian artist Roman Ondak. The artwork begins as a plain white space and every visitor has their height measured and marked directly onto the wall in black marker, alongside their name, eventually creating a dense black band of names around the space.

"I think the beauty is in the simplicity and how he takes an idea that's been around for centuries and turns it into an artwork," says Kaldor, who admits to measuring the heights of his own children growing up.

The work, which has previously been staged at MOMA, will be staged in Parramatta Town Hall during next year's Sydney Festival.

John Kaldor's latest project - "like a sculpture gallery where the sculptures go home at night"

John Kaldor, the art patron/collector renowned for bringing art superstars to Australia, believes his latest exhibition, 13 Rooms, will be "the most exciting exhibition of the decade." Described by Hans Ulrich Obrist as an exhibition like a sculpture gallery where all the sculptures go home at night, Kaldor Public Art Project #27 brings together 13 international artists and over 70 performers to present a group exhibition of living sculpture within 13 purpose-built room in Sydney's historic Pier 2/3. The exhibition builds on two prior iterations and continues the project of curators Hans Ulrich Obrist (co-director of London's Serpentine Gallery) and Klaus Biesenbach (director of MoMA PS1 in New York). Gregor Schneider creates a 'haunting' room at the AGNSW

With the assistance of John Kaldor, the Art Gallery of New South Wales has commissioned Gregor Schneider to install a room from his Totes Haus ur project in the Kaldor Family Gallery at the AGNSW. Known for his uncanny architectural environments, cavernous depths and labyrinths that evoke a dark individual or collective psyche, Schneider has created an eleven-by-four-metre room that has been shipped from Europe and inserted into the architectural fabric of the gallery. Art Gallery of New South Wales opens new John Kaldor Family Gallery

Today the Art Gallery of New South Wales unveils a new floor for contemporary art, a development catalysed by the gift of the John Kaldor Family Collection - the largest donation of art to a public art gallery in Australia's history. The Collection includes over 200 works by artists of our time and features in-depth representations of Robert Rauschenberg, Christo, Sol LeWitt, Richard Long, Bill Viola, Thomas Demand, Francis Alys and Ugo Rondinone.
