Katharina Fritsch's blue cockerel is ruffling feathers at Trafalgar Square


Katharina Fritsch talks to the Guardian about her Fourth Plinth cockerel sculpture located near Nelson's column in Trafalgar square. Like previous pieces in the series, Hahn/Cock is ruffling feathers, but controversy is an anticipated outcome of the project: the plinth programme is keen to inspire a healthy debate about what constitutes public art. Fourth Plinth commissions announced




The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has announced the 2012/2013 Fourth Plinth winners. Powerless Structures, Fig.101 by Elmgreen & Dragset has been commissioned for 2012 to be followed by Katharina Fritsch's Hahn / Cock in 2013.

Six new ideas for the Fourth Plinth commission


Over the past four years the 'empty' fourth plinth in the Northwest corner of Trafalgar Square has featured works by Marc Quinn, Thomas Schutte, Anthony Gormley and the current commission Yinka Shonibare's Nelson's Shop in a Bottle.
