Year of the snake


This year the Chinese New Year falls on February 10 and Starkwhite celebrates the start of year of the snake with Shangahi-based artist Jin Jiangbo who is in Auckland to oversee the installation of an exhibition of interactive works, which opens on 7 March as part of the visual arts programme of the Auckland Festival of Arts.

Entering the Year of the Dragon


This year the Chinese New Year falls on January 23, marking the beginning of the Year of the Dragon. The only mythical creature among the 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac and associated with the emperor in ancient times, the dragon is regarded as a symbol of might and intelligence.

The Year of the Rabbit


Today is the first day of the Chinese New Year, the Year of the Rabbit. Last year we celebrated the Chinese New Year with Jin Jiangbo's exhibition Shanghai Ye! Shanghai. This year he is back again, this time as a visiting scholar at Auckland University's Elam School of Fine Arts.
