Jin Jiangbo in Chinese Whispers


Jin Jiangbo's interactive video projection Rules of Nature is showing in Chinese Whispers at the Kunstmuseum Bern and Zentrum Paul Klee (Bern). The exhibition is drawn from Uli Sigg's collection of contemporary Chinese art, most of which has been gifted (including Jin Jiangbo's piece) to M+, the Herzon & de Meuron-design art museum scheduled to open in Hong Kong in 2017.

Rules of Nature in public space






Jin Jiangbo's interactive projection Rules of Nature was launched recently on Auckland's Dominion Road. The work is in the manner of Chinese ink and wash painting, presented as a video projection with software that allows it to respond to the movement of viewers on the street. Commissioned by the Auckland City Council and the Albert-Eden Local Board, the projection runs each night after dark at the New Zealand Chinese Bookshop, 672 Dominion Road, Mt Eden.

Coming up at Starkwhite


Jin Jiangbo's Rules of Nature opens at Starkwhite on Thursday at 6pm. Drawing on the ancient tradition of Chinese ink and wash paintings and employing interface software, his shanshui-inspired landscape is formed and re-formed in response to interactions by viewers. Presented in association with the Auckland Arts Festival 2013, Rules of Nature runs to 4 April.

Year of the snake


This year the Chinese New Year falls on February 10 and Starkwhite celebrates the start of year of the snake with Shangahi-based artist Jin Jiangbo who is in Auckland to oversee the installation of an exhibition of interactive works, which opens on 7 March as part of the visual arts programme of the Auckland Festival of Arts.

Starkwhite at the 2013 Auckland Arts Festival: an exhibition blending traditional Chinese art forms with new-media technology



Starkwhite will present Jin Jiangbo's Rules of Nature in the visual arts programme of the 2013 Auckland Arts Festival, which was announced at the Festival launch last week. Commissioned by Swiss art collector Uli Sigg for the exhibition Shanshui, Poetry without SoundChinese Contemporary Art at the Museum of Lucerne, which he co-curated with Ai Weiwei and Peter Fischer, Rules of Nature is an interactive installation blending imagery and sounds from traditional Chinese art forms with new-media technology. The exhibition, which runs at Starkwhite from 8 March to 6 April 2013, will also include a new work by Jin Jiangbo with imagery in the manner Shanshui ink-and-wash painting that forms and reforms in response to visitor interactions.

Starkwhite at ART HK 2012


ART HK 2012 takes place next week in the city's convention and exhibition centre. This year we will present a solo show by Shanghai-based artist Jin Jiangbo. The show will include Rules of Nature, a landscape in the manner of traditional Chinese ink-and-wash painting, but staged as an interactive projection, and in an adjacent space we will present a suite of digital photographs from his recent Dialogue with Nature series. Seven Asian artists at The Dowse


Jin Jiangbo and Hye Rim Lee are represented in Crystal City, an exhibition of works by seven Asian artists that opens at The Dowse in Lower Hutt tomorrow night. Curated by Emma Bugden, the exhibition runs from 16 July - 16 October 2011. Read more
