Richard Maloy opens in Russia

Richard Maloy's solo exhibition Found in Translation has opened at Artetage Museum of Modern Art in Russia. The exhibition is an outcome of his Martin Tate/Wallace artists resident in Vladivostok.

Richard Maloy's long-duration video

On Friday 22 December - the longest day of the year in the Southern Hemisphere - Starkwhite will screen Richard Maloy’s video Things I have Seen, (14hr 03min 32sec), an outcome of his three-month residency at the Youkobo Art Space in Tokyo from May – July 2017. The video screens from 5.28am (sunrise) to approximately 7.30pm. The artist wishes to acknowledge the support of Youkobo Art Space Tokyo, Asia New Zealand Foundation and Creative New Zealand

Starkwhite at Sydney Contemporary

We presented a two-person exhibition at this year's edition of Sydney Contemporary - photographs by Fiona Pardington (NZ) and paintings by Michael Zavros (AUS), and three of our artists - Richard Maloy, Grant Stevens and Clinton Watkins - were included in the Video Contemporary section curated by Serena Bentley.

Richard Maloy takes up residency in Tokyo

Richard Maloy has been awarded an Asia New Zealand Foundation / Creative New Zealand residency at Youkobo in Tokyo, which he will begin in April.

Coming up at Starkwhite

Our next show features a variation of Richard Maloy's Yellow Structure, presented in the Encounters section of Art Basel Hong Kong 2016, curated by Alexie Glass-Kantor. The presentation was with the generous support of the Asia Foundation and Creative New Zealand, delivered through their  Asia/NZ Co-comissioning Fund. The exhibition also includes Gavin Hipkins' The Port, a large 12-part photogram, and a suite of videos from Daniel von Sturmer's small world series (courtesy of Anna Schwartz Gallery, Melbourne). The exhibition runs from 28 June to 23 July.

Starkwhite at Art Basel Hong Kong

We'll be at Art Basel Hong Kong next week. The fair runs from 24-26 March with collector preview days on the 22nd and 23rd. It will be our fifth consecutive presentation at ABHK and the second time we have had an artist selected for the curated Encounters section of the fair. You can read more about our presentation here and Richard Maloy's Yellow Structure here. During the week of the fair Starkwhite will be open Tuesday - Friday 11am to 5pm and Saturday 11am to 3pm.

In praise of invention, forward thinking and liberty

Freedom Farmers: New Zealand Artists Growing Ideas is currently showing at the Auckland Art Toi o Tamaki. Curated by Natasha Conland and featuring commissioned works by 20 artists, including Martin Basher and Richard Maloy, the show traces the way New Zealand artists are using ideas of utopia, sustainability and artistic freedom in their work.
