Coming up at Starkwhite

Glen Hayward's I don't want you to worry about me, I have met some Beautiful People runs at Starkwhite from 7 - 21 December 2013 and 13 - 30 January 2014, with a preview on Saturday 7 December from 5 to 7pm.

Hayward produced his sculptural double of Mr Anderson's cubicle from The Matrix in 2012 under a Rita Angus Fellowship and the Starkwhite show follows presentations of the work in 2013 at the City Gallery, Wellington and the Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetu. A publication with an essay by Aaron Lister is available from the City Gallery, Wellington.

Ai Weiwei unimpressed by Hayward Gallery's exhibition Art of Change: New Directions from China

Ai Weiwei has dismissed the Hayward Gallery's exhibition Art of Change: New Directions from China, comparing it to "a restaurant in Chinatown. "It is simply a consumerist offering" he wrote in the Guardian, "providing little in the way of genuine experience of life in China today". "How can you have a show of Chinese Art that doesn't address a single one of the country's most pressing issues?" Read more...

Glen Hayward takes up the Rita Angus residency

Glen Hayward is the current artist in residence at the Rita Angus Cottage in Wellington. His residency runs from 5 June to 30 August 2012

Glen Hayward ends his residency with an open day at the McCahon House

Also closing today is Glen Hayward's Mirrorworld at the McCahon House. The artist will be in the studio from 11am - 3pm to talk about his work and the old McCahon cottage, which has been restored as a museum, will also be open to view.

Glen Hayward's Mirrorworld at the McCahon House

Glen Hayward's one-week studio exhibition Mirrorworld opens at the McCahon House tomorrow. The artist will be in the studio each day to talk about his work and the old McCahon house will also be open to view. The visiting days/times are: Saturday and Sunday 11am - 3pm, Monday to Friday 4 - 7pm and Saturday 22 11am - 3pm.

Glen Hayward takes up McCahon House residency

Glen Hayward has started his three-month residency at the McCahon House. Designed by Pete Bossley, the award-winning house and studio sits alongside the old McCahon House in French Bay, Titirangi. You can find out more about the McCahon House residency programme here.

Upstairs at Starkwhite

Upstairs we are showing works by a number of represented artists, including Glen Hayward's Closed Circuit. Hayward is at the end of a three-month residency at Altes Spital in Solothurn, Switzerland and will return to Auckland later this month to take up a McCahon House residency in August.

De-Building at the Christchurch Art Gallery

De-Building is inspired by a moment usually hidden from viewers when an exhibition ends and the de-build begins. Described as an exhibition full of surprises and architectural double-takes, it presents new installations and commissioned works by artists including Glen Hayward. De-Building runs at the Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna O Waiwhetu to 15 May 2011.

Glen Hayward awarded a McCahon House Residency

Glen Hayward has been awarded a place in the 2011 McCahon House Residency Programme. He will move into the McCahon house and studio in July after completing a three-month residency at Altes Spital in Solothurn, Switzerland courtesy of a Kaipara Foundation Wallace Arts Trust Award.

Glen Hayward picks up the Kaipara Foundation Wallace Arts Trust Award

The winners of this years Wallace Arts Trust Awards have been announced this week. Glen Hayward has been awarded the Kaipara Foundation Wallace Arts Trust Award, receiving a three-month residency at Altes Spital in Solothurn, Switzerland.
